These very central apartments can be located by clicking on the relevant links below. The regular gridded streets to be seen just North of Princes Street form the 'New Town', (well, it was new in the 1700s ). It was laid out for the most part in the late 18th Century, and was conceived as an elegant and refined alternative to the raucous late-medieval Old Town perched on the spine of the Castle Rock above. The road in the Old Town which leads East from the Castle. has a series of different names at different points, but collectively is known as 'The Royal Mile'. It connects the Castle, at the top, to the Royal Palace of Holyroodhouse at the bottom, and 1200 years of Scotlands history has been forged within its immediate environs.
Arriving By Air
A
taxi from Edinburgh Airport will cost around £24. Buses from the
Airport cost £5 return, and stop on Princes Street, opposite the
Castle. It is then possible to walk via Hanover Street (becomes
Dundas Street), which is the road running South to North from the
middle of Princes Street. After 5 blocks, take Cumberland Street on the
right, go to the end of Cumberland Street and opposite you lies
Dundonald Street. The studio flat is facing you at number 10a, see above. A further two blocks down Dundas Street takes
you to Eyre Place, on the right, and Eyre Crescent is then accessed
from Eyre Place. You can also take a bus,
(#23 and 27 only) in Hanover Street which will take you to the junction
of Eyre Place. A taxi from Princes Street will only cost £3-4.
For Abbeyhill Crescent, wait until the Airport bus #100 reaches its final stop on Waverley Bridge beside the rail station. Walk via Market Street, Jeffrey Street and Canongate OR. Market Street, New Street, Calton Road. About 10 minutes. Alternatively, take the #35 bus from the Airport and this will stop outside the apartment, opposite the Palace.
For Abbeyhill Crescent, wait until the Airport bus #100 reaches its final stop on Waverley Bridge beside the rail station. Walk via Market Street, Jeffrey Street and Canongate OR. Arriving by Rail
Edinburgh's
Waverley Station is also situated on Princes Street, so it is possible
to walk or catch a bus to Dundonald and Eyre via Hanover Street, as described
above. A taxi from the station will cost about £4 to any of the apartments. To walk to Abbeyhill is even easier, but you MUST then leave Waverley Station by the rear exit (above platform 2). Ignore the large arch in front of you when you come out of the station but turn back to the right, and walk along Calton Road, beside the railway wall, with Calton Hill towering above. In ten minutes you will arrive opposite the Palace and Abbeyhill Crescent is on your left.
Arriving by Road
Those
arriving by car should access the New Town from the West via Queensfery Road and the
Stockbridge district, or from the south and east via London Road and
Leith Walk. We will send tailored driving instructions to anyone who
contacts. The Eyre apartment
block sits in the middle of the crescent and is numbered 30. The
apartment itself is on the ground floor and is numbered 2. The Crescent
is 'one way' for vehicles and the entrance to the parking space is on
the right, about 2/3rds around the circuit. Those arriving by car to
Dundonald Street should access via Cumberland or Drummond, but will be
redirected to a parking spot after unloading. Abbeyhill Crescent is best accessed from the East, preferably via London Road and through the Royal Park (Queens drive). Alternatively, from the South, enter the Royal park via Dalkeith Road or Duddingston Village.
